"Complete letdown!"
I ordered a ham for my Easter feast. It was loaded with fat and tipped the scales at just 2lbs. The description claimed it weighed between 3-4lbs and could serve 8-12 folks. After trimming off the fat, I’d be lucky if it could feed 2! This is definitely not making it to my Easter table! I paid a pretty penny for this, thinking I was getting something decent. It’s really disappointing that they operate like this. I wish I had checked out reviews before placing my order. They won’t be getting my hard-earned cash again! What a shame!

"Still Waiting on My Christmas Ham - New Year's is Here!"
I really wish there was a way to give negative stars, 'cause Smithfield would definitely deserve a triple whammy. I reached out about my order on December 22 since it didn’t show up on the 19th like I asked. Molly from customer service told me it left the warehouse on Wednesday, December 20, and 'should' be here by Christmas. She couldn’t provide a tracking number because, apparently, there was a huge backlog and UPS didn’t give her one. Sounds a bit fishy, right? She mentioned I wasn’t the only one calling in, as they were swamped with orders (like that makes it any better?). I told her to just cancel my order since Christmas was just three days away, and I’d grab a ham from the local grocery store instead. Fast forward to today, December 30, and I get an email from UPS with a tracking number for my Smithfield delivery. I’m definitely refusing that order since it never got canceled, and I’m planning to file a complaint with the attorney general in Virginia where they’re based.

"Disappointing Christmas Ham"
I picked up a ham for Christmas, but it turned out to be super fatty and packed with gristle. I was really let down and definitely won't be getting it again.

"Thanksgiving Dinner Disaster 2022"
The Henry Gray Party Ham looked absolutely stunning, and everyone was eager to dig in. Sadly, it turned out to be WAY TOO SALTY for anyone to enjoy. We had no choice but to toss it in the garbage. This was a big investment and the main protein for our feast. I felt so humiliated! I've been trying to get in touch with customer service, but no luck so far. I even left an online review, but they haven't shared it. I swear, I won't ever use them again. If only I had checked out these reviews before buying.

"Smithfield's Lack of Support for Their Products"
After more than 25 years of buying hams from this brand, I’m done. Last Christmas, we got a ham and two more as gifts. We kept those two in the fridge for later. Fast forward two months, we opened the first gift ham, and it was spoiled. Taking a bite made my mouth foam up! I reached out to Smithfield, and they just shrugged it off, saying it wasn’t their issue and wouldn’t back their product. After all those years of loyalty, I can confidently say we won’t be purchasing from them again. Edwards Hams, on the other hand, actually stands by what they sell!

"Not What You Expect When Ordering"
Smithfield Marketplace.
We started off by ordering a ham for $80.00, thinking we were in for a treat. We were all set to enjoy a fantastic ham for Christmas, ready to splurge a bit. The image online made it look massive and delicious. But what showed up was more like a cantaloupe-sized ham, barely enough for four people, let alone twelve. I tried reaching out to customer service seven times, but each time I got disconnected. When I finally managed to speak to someone, they informed me that there were no returns, refunds, or credits available.
Their motto is supposedly to exceed expectations, but I’m left feeling pretty frustrated. What’s the point of having customer service if it doesn’t help?
The lesson here is to think twice about where you spend your $80.00. I really should have just gone with Amazon; they would’ve at least offered an apology and a credit.

"Avoid Items Labeled as Special Clearance"
I ordered the STEAMSHIP Ham on sale for Easter, shelling out $100 for it. It arrived last Wednesday. When I went to cook it early Sunday morning, the label said to use or freeze by April 5th, 2020. My wife refused to cook it, so we rushed to Honeybaked and ended up spending $127 on a replacement ham. The Smithfield ham? Straight to the trash, since it was past its prime and we had no way to store it.
I reached out to customer service, and they confirmed that all their special items are expired products. I asked the rep to point me to where it says that, but no luck. They mentioned they could have picked it up and refunded me, but now I’m stuck. Oh, and don’t reply to them on your order confirmation—there’s a tiny note in small print saying not to do that, my bad.
Seriously, who in their right mind sells expired ham on Easter and thinks it’s a clever marketing move? They ought to be upfront about it: ordering this might mean you get something that’s not fit for eating. Just steer clear of this company—what a total joke!

"Absolutely the worst ham I've ever had! Easter 2020"
I bought a Smithfield half ham, hardwood smoked, back in November, tossed it in the deep freeze, and just baked it for Easter. The use-by date was January 15 or freeze. This ham had what I’d describe as a funky old pork flavor, and it was just awful! I've had way better from generic store brands!

"Save Your Time"
A couple of weeks back, I ordered a Carando quarter spiral ham for Easter. Following the advice of a Smithfield customer service representative, I set it up to be shipped the Monday before Easter, expecting it to arrive by Wednesday. I decided to order online since we’re stuck at home during the pandemic and have had a tough time getting meat from local stores. However, I didn’t get any shipping notice, and when I checked online, I saw that the ham was now out of stock. So, on Tuesday (which is today), I called to see what was up. Turns out, the ham hadn’t shipped at all, it was out of stock, and I hadn’t received any notification about it. I thought that by ordering ahead for a specific shipping date, they would have set aside the ham for me, but nope. Smithfield offered me a different ham at the same price, but it wasn’t the Carando brand, and their own brand has terrible reviews for being too salty. I turned that down, asked for a refund, and requested an email confirmation for the cancellation. They told me they couldn’t send an email confirmation, but I could call back to check. No thanks; I’m just going to put a hold on the credit card charge, which, by the way, was processed two weeks ago! I was also informed that there was no way to file a formal complaint with the company, hence this review and others I’ll be sharing everywhere. If I hadn’t called today to follow up, my order would’ve just been ignored, and I probably would’ve lost the money charged two weeks ago. Plus, with the quarantine, I have no way to get meat for Easter. I will NEVER do business with this company again, and you shouldn’t either! I should’ve listened to the horror stories from others right from the start.

"Christmas Gift Disaster"
On December 9, I placed an order for five hams for my sons' Christmas dinners. Only one of them got their ham, and here we are a month later with no hams in sight! Trying to get in touch with the company was a total nightmare; it felt like I was going in circles. Finally, Mr. McDonald, the one in charge, answered my call and promised that the issue would be sorted out two days after Christmas, along with a discount and shipment of the hams. Now it's January 6, and I’m still waiting—no hams, no discount, and I had to leave a message demanding my money back. I would never recommend Smithfield Marketplace to anyone and can't believe they’re still in business after this $350 mess.

"Avoid this place! They charged me for a ham that never shipped."
I placed an order for a ham to be sent out on Wednesday, December 18, with the expectation of getting it by Saturday, December 21. When I checked in on Monday, December 23, to ask about tracking details, I received an email saying their 'Shipper' was running late and had sent out a bunch of orders on Friday and Saturday, so I should expect it soon. I was a bit skeptical since I hadn’t received any shipping confirmation, and sure enough, the ham didn’t show up. On Christmas Day, I shot them an email to cancel my order and asked for a refund. They called me the day after Christmas to apologize and said they would refund my account. Honestly, they shouldn’t have charged my card in the first place since they never sent the ham. I highly suggest reaching out to Edwards or finding a more trustworthy seller.

"Terrible customer support. Avoid this business!"
I've bought Country hams from this place in the past and was always happy. But this year, our Christmas feast got messed up because the ham was way too salty and tough.

"Lack of customer support during the holidays."
I haven't received my hams yet, and my mailbox is packed, so there's no way to leave a message! You'd expect some help with issues on a weekend right before Christmas, especially with Monday being Christmas EVE! I'll be giving them a ring on Monday, and if nobody picks up, I won't be too pleased.

"The Saltiest Ham I've Ever Tasted"
This Christmas, my wife was keen to try an uncooked ham for a change. We've enjoyed Smithfield's spiral cut hams in the past, so we were pretty excited when we found their Country uncooked ham at our local Harmons Grocery. We followed the instructions carefully, soaking it in water for 36 hours and changing the water every 4 hours, just like Smithfield suggested to cut down on the saltiness. After cooling it as per their guidelines, we were ready to dig in. But let me tell you, it was like we just dumped a whole bunch of salt into a bowl and went to town. I reached out to Smithfield to see if I messed something up, but they haven't bothered to reply. When I spoke to the butcher at the store, he mentioned he had heard plenty of complaints similar to mine. Given the experience with this ham and the lack of response from customer service, I think I'll be looking for a different brand next time. If you're not a fan of salt, steer clear of Smithfield's Country Hams.
